Storyboard P, a Stranger in Sweden

Storyboard P. uses his body like a paintbrush and the whole world as his canvas – the air the same as the streets. He jolts, he melts, he twists and he levitates. For us mortals with an actual spine in our body, the body language of this Brooklyn-born dancer is a total mystery.

Matthew D’Arcy’s documentary follows closely at the heels of this talented artist, who is yet to find stardom. In 2011 Storyboard P. is invited to Sweden to lead few workshops and act as a judge in a dance competition. He decides to stay in Stockholm, but things go badly awry. He loses his passport and almost loses his sanity. In the end, he ends up staying in the country illegally and without a place to stay.

And what does he do about it? He dances on the street.

Storyboard P. is a story about the price you pay for a talent. For even when you are as talented as Storyboard P, it sometimes is not enough. You also need an iron will. As difficulties pile high in Storyboard P’s way, it looks like he is about to break down or lose his sense of reality. But every time, Storyboard P. conquers his fears by dancing – it’s dancing that lifts him above the everyday troubles. Most recently we’ve seen Storyboard P’s dance moves in Jay Z’s music video “Picasso Baby”. He is all the more closer to breakthrough.
